1984 Kawasaki 750 Turbo

The venerable Kawasaki GPZ750 Turbo known as the Kawasaki 750 turbo as the GPZ tag was not mentioned. When released, the stock bike made a claimed 112hp (84 kW), had sports bike handling and looked great, especially next to other factory turbo bikes which were already on the market such as the Suzuki XN85, Honda CX500 and CX650 turbos and the Yamaha Seca Turbo.

The performance was better than the GPZ1100 with Jay Gleason lighting up the dragstrip with a 10.05 quarter mile. Journalists branded it the fastest bike they ever tested and some ads claiming it to be the fastest production motorcycle in the world. The turbo had genuine performance and was ahead of other factory turbos by a country mile. The Kawasaki company used special turbo pistons, the 7.8 : 1 pistons, stronger gearbox internals and a modified oil pan with an extra oil scavenge pump.

These bikes are just about impossible to restore as all the parts required for a restoration are simply not available from Kawasaki and there is no one making them aftermarket. Engine and turbo parts are not a problem to source, so easy to keep the bike on the road. But as far as restoring one that’s rough, it is near impossible. So the only way to get a good example of this model is to buy one that was owned by an enthusiast and cared for.
